What have I been doing for the last two years...?
Well... quite a bit. A little over two years ago I decided to take a huge gamble and became a self-employed photographer. With six years experience, I had a great understanding of photography and how my images catered for different clients. Families expect beautiful framed portraits that bring blank walls to life. While Graphic Designers are after editorial, story-telling photos that will bind their work together.
While I knew the technical aspect of photography well and it was what I loved to do, I didn't have much experience, if any, of running a business.
I've had a great time meeting and building relationships with a number of clients, as well as other Photographers. I was expecting a world of cut-throat competitors and a fight to find work. In fact, what I found, was an awesome community of Photographers and suppliers that help each other. I've had to learn some tough lessons in business, but great advice is never far away.
Working hard to build a successful business, while enjoying family life to the full has been a great adventure. And I must be getting better at this whole business thing... I've even found time to create a long overdue blog!
So what have you been up to for the last two years?
